CENTRAL EL PASO — UTEP has seen considerable growth over the past several years.
As enrollment grows, so must the campus.
The plan is to widen Sun Bowl Drive and add another roundabout.
The project will cost about $5 million, but UTEP officials say its necessary to relieve congestion.
Sun Bowl Drive will be expanded from one lane each way to two lanes each way, with an outside lane wide enough to allow for a bike lane.
It will start north of the Sun Bowl parking garage and go to the Don Haskins Center where the road is already two lanes each way.
The current roundabout has been so successful in easing traffic, another one will be added at Sun Bowl Drive and Glory Road.
The project begins in May 2013 and is expected to take about 10 months to complete.
