Family and friends of Crystal Lugo Nevarez gathered at her mother's Montana Vista home today to hug, cry, and remember a girl they say lit up a room with her smile.
"She was always so happy. and she was never afraid to correct, she was always straight out, but you knew she cared about you when she did that. that's how you knew," said Pearl, Crystal's older sister.
Crystal was one of four sisters. She graduated from Mountain View High School and grew up in this Montana Vista home. Pearl says Crystal was always thinking of others and would go out of her way to help someone in need.
Paola Gutierrez was Crystal's best friend. She says the two first met in elementary school but became inseparable their last two years of high school.
The Lugo home was sombre today. Crystal's loved ones sat together at the kitchen table, devastated by this heart breaking loss. The sound of Crystal's mother's cries echoed through the home, as she was reminded of her once vibrant daughter, who loved her family dearly.
In the midst this tragedy, Crystal's tight knit Montana Vista community is raising money to bring her body home from Mexico.
