The town of Mesilla finalized the purchase of a new fire truck this evening at a town meeting.
Trustees approved a loan for a little more than $316,000 from the New Mexico finance authority to purchase a new pumper truck.
The town has been working for months trying to replace an old 1986 truck that is becoming too costly to repair.
The loan will be paid for by the department's volunteer Firefighters who unanimously gave up their annual $40,000 stipend to make payments on the truck.
Mesilla Fire Chief, Kevin Hoban said "it is going to be a good truck, it's built by a very reputable company and it's going to have the features on it that we really desired."
The department is hoping to have the new truck delivered early next year.
