EL PASO — The group called "Save the Stacks" presented their report on the Asarco smokestacks durability and cost to upkeep to the public Wednesday.
The group must prove to the city that the stacks are not a liability. An item on next week's city council agenda proposes resolution regarding the city's intentions to create a regional monument at the closed Asarco smelter facility.
Founder of the group, Robert Ardovino said besides the fact that the stacks are perfectly safe and durable it's the history that deserves preserving.
"History isnt something you tear down," he said. "History is something you memorialize, history is something you create in order for generations to come to understand why these things were here."
