RUIDOSO, NM — It's a late start to the ski season in Ruidoso this year but that doesn't seem to be hurting shop owners.
Ski Apache is pushing back its opening day a couple of weeks to no later than Dec. 7. the resort typically opens Thanksgiving Day.
Officials say since it's been a warm November and that hasn't allowed them to produce enough snow. While the town of ruidoso typically relies on tourism in the winter but store owners say the delay hasn't affected them.
"Whether we have snow or not for Thanksgiving it's always about the same," said Ralph Rush, St. Bernard Ski and Snowboard Superstore. "When we get to Christmas we normally have a lot of good snow."
Rush has owned a ski shop in Ruidoso for almost 40 years and says this year is no different than last.
In fact, he expects a great turnout this season.
