EL PASO — Thanksgiving is just around the corner and Saturday, the local charity Operation Hope held their annual turkey give-a-way at two locations across the borderland.
They handed out 13,000 Thanksgiving feasts to families in our area who need it most.
"It's important to look outside yourself, that the community is bigger than just your family,” said Jon Van Valen.
Van Valen spent his Saturday volunteering at Operation Hope's turkey give-a-way.
“We know and have that awareness that there are families in El Paso that need help," said Van Valen.
More than 500 people lined up at a local church to receive a Thanksgiving blessing. It's all part of Operation Hope's yearly event led by Angel Gomez.
It wasn't just turkeys they were giving away.
"Passing out our Thanksgiving dinner. We had everything from eggs, bread, potatoes, canned goods of course turkey and milk," said Gomez.
