Loop 375 Toll Road Extension

The Texas Department of Transportation will spend between $400 and $600 million on the Loop 375 Border Highway West Extension Project. It will be a four lane toll road that travels from Racetrack Drive near Doniphan Road and New Mexico 273, to Highway 54, east of downtown El Paso. That's a distance of 9 miles, of which 7 miles would be tolled.

TXDOT engineer, Robert Bielek, told Newschannel 9 that the highway will not cut through the Chihuahuita neighborhood but will only go through a small part of the Chihuahuita Park. He says this plan will greatly reduce traffic on the I-10 and provide an alternate route to commuters in the event of, for instance, an accident on the 10 freeway.

The Loop 375 extension will be right next to the border but TXDOT officials say they are working closely with US Customs and Border Patrol agents to ensure that area is properly monitored.
