El Paso Copes with Growing Water Challenges

EL PASO — El Paso Water Utilities will drill nine new wells in the Lower Valley to try and cope with rising water demands. Every summer water demand skyrockets, and the on-going drought is taking a toll on the city's water supply. The nine new wells will draw an additional 12 million gallons of water a day from the Hueco Bolson Acquifer. The project will cost about $3.5 million dollars. EPWU is also planning several other multi million dollar projects, including the construction of several new pipelines to move water around the city.
