EL PASO — A Texas Ranger's affidavit is shedding light on the arrest of four Socorro police officers.
Officers Israel Delgado and Javier Varela apparently lied about an incident back in May that may have led to an unlawful arrest of a motorcyclist, according to the Ranger's affidavit.
The Ranger says what they wrote in their arrest record didn't match the surveillance camera footage of a nearby 7-11 convenience store.
They're charged with tampering government records, aggravated perjury, on top of official oppression.
As for Refugio Orta and Jose Alvarez, the ranger says as supervisors, they supported Delgado and Varela... and put another officer on unpaid leave because he refused to arrest the motorcyclist.
By not interviewing other witnesses, the ranger says Orta and Alvarez allowed for the official oppression to occur.
