Junior Desiree Scott led the New Mexico State volleyball team to a 3-1 (19-25, 27-25, 25-22, 25-22) win in Strahan Coliseum, Thursday, Nov. 8.
Scott posted a match-high 19 kills and was basically unstoppable as she marked only two errors in four sets to finished with a match-high .500 hitting percentage. She was also in on six blocks as the Aggies rallied from a 1-0 deficit after falling 25-19 in set one.
NM State moves to 19-8 overall and 12-4 in Western Athletic Conference play while the Bobcats fall to 14-13 overall and 9-7 in league action.
Texas State took over set one out-blocking the Aggies to take an early 1-0 lead.
Set two started like the first set with the Aggies falling behind early one. NM State fought back and won set two 27-25 on a net call to gain momentum heading into the intermission.
The Aggies used its momentum to take an 7-2 lead in set three that was topped off by a service ace from freshman setter Taylor Livoti, who finished the night with three aces and 15 assists. The set was tied six times with the final tie coming at 21-21. NM State posted two blocks late and took advantage of a couple of Bobcat errors to win 25-22.
The Aggies were the first to 10 as junior Lauren Loerch, who finished with 13.5 points on 12 kills and three block assists, marked a kill giving NM State a 10-6 lead. Texas State rallied back to tie it at 13 but the Aggies worked through the pressure to win 25-22.
Sophomore Meredith Hays posted a double-double in the Aggie victory with 11 kills and 18 digs, while Ciara Brown posted the first double-double of her NM State career with 18 assists and 13 digs.
The Aggies head to San Antonio for a WAC match-up with UTSA, Saturday, Nov. 10 at 11 a.m. (MT).
