EL PASO — Joe Moody, who beat Dee Margo four years ago for state representative district 78, then lost to Margo two years ago, again defeated his longtime opponent Tuesday night and will return to Austin for two years.
Moody said earlier Tuesday he was happy with the campaign he'd run, and promised to use the next two years to emphasize improvements in education for Texas students.
"We lost," a deflated Margo told Newschannel 9, after finding himself down by about 18-hundred votes late Tuesday. Asked whether part of his defeat might stem from strong local support for President Obama and straight-ticket voting, Margo said he has always opposed straight-ticket voting for either party.
Moody worked tirelessly up to the final moments of voting, appearing at an elementary school to shake hands, and calling it a part of his work ethic to finish strong. He did that on Tuesday night.
