El Paso- There are two seats are up for grabs on the El Paso County Commissioners' Court Precinct 3.
Precinct three occupies the lower valley and parts of far east El Paso and it's by far the most talked about seat this year because of it's history. The seat was previously held by "Willie" Gandara Jr. A federal judge sentenced him to six months in prison for his role in a drug-trafficking scheme. Since his arrest, Tania Chozet has been representing Precinct three. She was sworn in on March 5, 2012. She will not seek re-election and will give her seat up December 31, 2012 to tonight's winner. The Democratic candidate vying for her seat is Vince Perez. Perez's opponent, Republican Fred Chavez was unavailable for comment, but whichever candidate wins tonight there's a lot of work ahead.
One of the biggest projects underway in Pecinct three is the new Tornillo-Guadalupe International Bridge, Port of Entry, and Roadway Project.
Another important project just completed in Precinct three is the San Elizario Community Garden located in the lower valley.
