The Department of Public Safety arrested four City of Socorro police officers and one police dispatcher Tuesday evening. Texas State Troopers later raided the Soccoro Police Department Substation and Socorro Police Headquarters on Poona street, where they searched through files and computers belonging to the officers.
Jose Alvarez, Refugio Orta, Israel Delgado, and Javier Varela, were arrested on charges of official oppression and tampering with governmental records.The fifth employee, a police dispatcher, Raul Huerta, was arrested on a drug charge -- delivery of more than 5 pounds of marijuana.
Investigators could be seen carrying out computers. Socorro City spokesperson, Dave Garcia, says that the investigation will remain in the hands of the Texas Department of Public Safety and the District Attorney's office.
