EL PASO — El Paso is making noise, and this time, going global thanks to one local musician.
Her name is Christina Gurrola and you may recognize her from a popular talent competition on Tengo Talento, Mucho Talento.
Tuesday night on Spanish network Estrella,Gurrola was selected to make it to the semi finals of this international competition.
This El Paso born and raised singer didn't foresee such a journey when she first auditioned a few months ago at a casting call right here in El Paso.
"Well my friend told me about it and I went to the audtion," she said. "It was a last minute thing and somehow I made it I don't know how."
The show producers will be in El Paso Thursday to film a day in the life of Christina Gurrola.
"i'm going to introduce them to friends, family, where I live, and at night, we're going to have a jam session at Joe Vinny and Bronson's coffee house on Piedras with my friend Ricardo Valencia," she said.
That jam session, to be held at Joe Vinny and Bronson's Bohemian Cafe on 824 Piedras can give you a preview of the music style to expect on the next episode of Tengo Talento.
Gurrola has chosen South Carolina musician Bernard Brown to collaborate with her to fuse a traditional Mexican sound with a gospel-pop-soul flavor.
She's hoping the two of them will earn the votes of viewers that will get them the grand prize of $100 thousand and an opportunity to get her own album produced.
When asked about her favorite part of the competition..
"I think i'm just representing El Paso, and that's what awesome about it really.. "
Thursday's jam session will be held at 8pm at 824 N. Piedras, GET THERE EARLY!
