UTEP soccer standouts Azia Nicholson (second team), Tess Hall (third team) and Tori Martyn (third team) have been voted as 2012 All-Conference USA honors. It marks the second straight year and the seventh time in program history that at least three Miners have earned all-league recognition.
“UTEP soccer is very proud of the accomplishments of Azia, Tori and Tess,” UTEP head coach Kevin Cross said. “All three of them were leaders on the field for us this season. I am very glad that they have earned the respect of the Conference USA coaches, as all three of them deserve it. I am looking forward to Azia and Tori leading the way to a successful 2013 season.”
Nicholson, who also earned a spot on the second team as a sophomore in 2011, had a quality campaign as a junior in 2012. She ranked second on the squad in goals (six) and points (15). She had a great ratio of goals to shots on target, with her six strikes coming in just 13 shots on goal. Nicholson showed her versatility by also being used on defense, marking the top players in the league.
Hall, who was also a third-team honoree in 2011, had a stellar senior season. She paced the team in goals (eight), assists (nine) and points (25). She was also among the C-USA leaders in those categories, sharing the top spot for assists while ranking second in points and tied for sixth in goals. Hall kept the pressure on the defense with a team-high and the second-most shots in the conference (66). More than half of those tries (35) were on target.
Martyn enjoyed a breakout campaign with three goals, including two headers to help stop Memphis' 30-match C-USA win streak, and four assists in 2012. She was also a quality distributor who contributed four assists, which rated tied for second on the team. Martyn was an efficient goal scorer, evidenced by four tallies in just 10 shots on target.
