SUNLAND PARK, NM — Thousands made the annual pilgrimage up Mount Cristo Rey Sunday morning. People lined up as early as 4:30 in the morning to make the religious trek up the mountain and for the first time ever, the Mt. Cristo Rey restoration committee asked for a $1.00 fee to offset the cost that Sunland Park charged for police and fire services for the day. Some of the faithful are brave enough to walk up barefoot and hike up the mountain on their knees.
