The University of Utah heads up the 12-team field through 18 holes of the Price’s Give ‘Em Five Invitational on Friday at Butterfield Trail Golf Club in El Paso.
The Utes shot 281 in the first round. The second round was suspended due to darkness at 6:40 pm MST and will be finished on Saturday morning. Only four teams (UT Arlington, UTEP, Northern Colorado and San Jose State) completed the second round on Friday (up-to-date scores available on golfstat.com). The third and final round will also be played on Saturday.
Play will resume on Saturday morning at 7:30 MST. The third round is slated for a shotgun start at 8:15 am.
UT Arlington is in second place (284), with Idaho in third (288), host UTEP in fourth (292), Oral Roberts in fifth (296), Weber State, Nebraska & Northern Colorado tied for sixth (297), Western New Mexico in ninth (301), Seattle & San Jose State tied for 10th (303) and New Mexico State in 12th (312).
Northern Colorado sophomore Charlie Mroz fired a four-under-par 68 to lead a field of 72 golfers. UT Arlington’s Riley Fleming & Paul McConnell and Utah’s Brandon Kida also broke 70 (69) over the opening round.
UTEP’s Luke Ovenden and Ryan Fioretti were tied for seventh place (71), Ross Rotwein was tied for 12th place (72), Martin Simonsen, Jere Pelletier & Jacob Loya were tied for 21st place (73), Ian Patterson was tied for 30th place (74), Devin Miertschin & Jerry Castrellon were tied for 42nd place (76), and Roberto Ruiz was tied for 56th place (79). Castrellon, Fioretti, Loya, Ovenden and Ruiz are competing as individuals.
