EL PASO — Juan Antonio Gonzalez, the 17-year-old suspect involved in the death of an off-duty police officer, was indicted Tuesday of capital murder, according to county court documents.
The case involved the beating death of Officer Jonathan Molina, who died of his injuries Oct. 5, over a week after the alleged beating by Gonzalez in central El Paso.
According to El Paso Police, Gonzalez and two other suspects were approached by Officer Molina after they allegedly vandalized his car. Witnesses said Gonzalez attacked Officer Molina after he claimed to be a police officer. According to an arrest affidavit, Officer Molina went unconscious when his head hit the concrete after Gonzalez pulled his legs from under him. Gonzalez then went on to continue his punching attack to Officer Molina's head that caused injuries leading to his death.
Gonzalez was booked on a $5 million bond with no indication on court records as to his arraingment date. He was being represented by attorney Max Munoz.
