The 20th-ranked UTEP rifle team will take another step in its development when it shares the range in a match at defending national champion and No. 2 TCU Saturday.
It marks the second event on the season for the youth-laden Miners, who will by vying to build upon the results during their lidlifter against Jacksonville and Nevada on Oct. 14. The Horned Frogs, who also won the 2010 NCAA crown, are riding a 33-match regular-season winning streak.
UTEP will carry four shooters into the match, the minimum amount, leaving it little margin for error against the powerful TCU squad. The Orange and Blue fired a team aggregate of 4496 in the opener, and they’ll be looking to surpass that sum.
Sophomore Jennifer Armendariz will look to set the tone in air rifle after she fired 588, 12 shy of a flawless score, against Nevada and JSU. Areli Oros, a junior walk-on, recorded 532.
Rodriguez was the top UTEP shooter in the smallbore with an effort of 572 while Armendariz recorded 568. Muegge was nearly perfect in prone (198/200) on the way to finishing at 561 and Oros fired 529 in her career debut in the event.
