Local Educator Named Finalist for Teacher of the Year

El Paso — A teacher from right here in the borderland has been named one of the state's best. Mrs. Irene Salom is one of three finalists for the Texas Teacher of the Year Award. Mrs. Salom is a special education teacher at Josefa L. Sambrano Elementary School in the San Elizario Independent School District. She's been with the district for the past five years. The winner will be announced tomorrow at a special ceremony in Austin.
