UTEP junior guard Julyan Stone was appointed to the 2009-10 Conference USA All-Defensive Team on Tuesday, and junior guard Randy Culpepper earned All-District honors.
Stone was one of five players to earn All-Defensive squad honors, joining UAB guard Aaron Johnson, Tulsa center Jerome Jordan, Southern Miss guard Sai’Quon Stone and Marshall forward Hassan Whiteside.
The C-USA Coach and Player of the Year will be announced on Wednesday.
This is Stone’s first selection to the All-Defensive team. He is averaging 4.9 rebounds and 1.6 steals this season. Stone has had at least one takeaway in 22 of 29 games this season and has had multiple steals on 15 occasions.
Culpepper is one of 10 players from schools in the states of Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana chosen to the District VII team, as voted on by members of the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA). He is joined by Arkansas’ Rotnei Clarke, Sam Houston State’s Gilberto Clavell, Texas’ Damion James, Louisiana Lafayette’s Tyren Johnson, LSU’s Tasmin Mitchell, Arkansas State’s Bradon Reed, Texas Tech’s Mike Singletary, Texas A&M’s Donald Sloan and Baylor’s Ekpe Udoh.
Culpepper leads UTEP and ranks third in Conference USA in scoring, averaging 18.1 points per game.
