The New Mexico State women's golf team concluded the first round of its home tournament, the Price's "Give Em' Five" Intercollegiate, at the New Mexico State University Golf Course shooting an 11-over-par 299 to finish the first day of the three-day tournament in sixth place.
Freshman Kacey Dalpes leads the Aggies, as she shot a 2-under-par 70 to put her one shot behind leader Yupaporn Kawinpakorn of Kansas. Dalpes had the lead after finishing her round, but Kawinpakorn birdied two of her last three holes to finish with a 3-under-par 69 and the lead. Dalpes finished with three birdies of her own, all on par-5 holes.
The UTEP women's golf team is in 12th place through 18 holes of the Price's Give 'Em Five Intercollegiate on Monday in Las Cruces.
The Miners posted a team score of 308 in round one of the three-day event. Idaho leads the 13-team field after shooting 290.
UTEP's Emma Edin and Nathalie Castillo both fired a four-over-par 76. They are tied for 31st place. Maria Velasco carded a 77 (tied for 38th place), Camino Sardinero shot 79 (tied for 56th place) and Emma Burman shot 80 (tied for 62nd place).
The tournament continues, Tuesday, Oct. 9 with an 8:30 a.m. (MT) shotgun start. The three-round tournament will conclude, Wednesday, Oct. 10.
