Many children who are hit by cars while walking are distracted by their mobile devices. Researchers analyzed data from 1400 children treated in the emergency room after being hit by a car.
Nearly one in five patients from 13 to 17 were texting, listening to music or distracted by a mobile device when they were hit. 44% of younger children who were hit darted into the street, despite being with a guardian. Researchers say pediatricians should be emphasizing these safety tips as part of routine check-ups.
