The Texas Department of Transportation invited local El Paso residents to a public meeting tonight to discuss the proposed I-10 freeway expansion.
The meeting was held at Del Valle Elementary School to give people a chance to share their thoughts and concerns about the project. The Transportation Department wants to widen the freeway by adding an additional lane in each direction of I-10 between Viscount Boulevard and Zaragosa Road. Transportation officials say the main purpose of this project is to increase traffic capacity and reduce congestion on the road.
This I-10 Operational Improvements Project will cost approximately $9 million dollars. Construction is scheduled to begin in February 2013 and end in the year 2015.
If you're interested in this project and would like to voice your opinion, the Texas Department of Transportation encourages you to email them. The comments will be taken into account when moving forward with the initiative. The deadline to email the Department is October 13th.
