The latest research on the common cold finds no benefit to taking vitamin D supplements.
Researchers in New Zealand randomly assigned half of a group of 322 healthy adults to receive high doses of vitamin D-3 over nearly 2 years. The other half took a placebo.
After the study, researchers found no significant differences in the number of upper respiratory infections or the severity of colds between the two groups.
Rest and possibly chicken soup still seem to be the best medicine in many cases.
