Miners Anthony Rotich and Risper Kimaiyo claimed second place at Cowboy Jamboree on Saturday.
Rotich took second overall finishing ahead of top-ranked Joseph Manilafasha, Girma Mecheso and Fabian Clarkson from No. 2 in the nation Oklahoma State. The freshman clocked in a time of 24:29.26 in the men’s 8K race.
The second Miner to cross the finish line was Elphas Maiyo with a personal-best of 24:57.76 completing the race in seventh place. While, senior Elkana Rotich concluded the contention with a time of 25:25.22.
Wrapping up the men’s side are freshman’s Juan Blanco and Ramon Garcia registering times of 26:08.52 and 28:12.13, respectively. UTEP finished the race fourth overall with a total of 160 points.
Kimayo clocked in a season-best of 17:17.79 concluding the race in second place overall. Senior Karina Garcia was the 30th runner to cross the finish line posting a time of 18:57.40.
El Paso native Laura Delgado was the third Miner to meet the task with a time of 19:55.30. Gladys Chepsat and Jackline Ekai round off the squad recording times of 20:18.81 and 20:19.08, respectively.
The women’s team concluded the race in seventh place out of 17 squads that competed at the meet.
