EL PASO — The MountainStar sports group must finalize their purchase of the Tucson Padres as the Triple-A baseball team for El Paso.
They released a statement saying : "We join the people of El Paso in celebrating the vision and forward-thinking action taken by our mayor and city council members this week to commit to build a downtown ballpark for El Paso's Triple-A baseball team."
One local El Pasoan, who spent eight years in the majors, agrees.
Rocky coppinger: “I thought wow, this is a chance of a lifetime. I thought that once the Diablos left Double-A baseball that no way would I see this day come, and here it is. It's just excitement... There's life... There will finally be some life downtown, and it's something el paso desperately needed,” said Rocky Coppinger.
The league and minor league baseball have practically approved the sale, just need to sign on the dotted line. The group plans a press conference very soon.
