Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Deputies were called out to Severo’s Restaurant and Lounge in La Mesa around 10:30 Saturday night after a person there was found unresponsive and unconscious.
Investigators say 32 year-old Manny Gonzales had followed another individual to the restaurant and started a fight with him.
That person, we're told, sustained numerous cuts and abrasions to his face and body while Gonzales sustained no visible injuries.
Witnesses say Gonzales had to be physically pulled and separated from the person whom he allegedly provoked the fight with.
As he was walking back to his truck, witnesses report Gonzales began gasping for air and asked for his inhaler. He was unable to catch his breath and collapsed, unable to regain consciousness.
Gonzales was transported by ambulance to Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces where he was pronounced dead.
The other party involved in the altercation was detained, questioned and then later released.
Preliminary examinations indicate Gonzales died of natural causes and not as a result of the fight.
Investigators say they are awaiting the final autopsy report before making a final decision.
No criminal charges have been filed at this time but they have not been ruled out.
