Chicago mayor asking for injunction to end teachers strike

(CNN) — Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced Sunday night that he is asking city lawyers to "file an injunction in circuit court to immediately end this strike." His announcement came shortly after a Chicago Teachers Union committee opted not to end the week-old teachers strike, despite a tentative deal being reached days earlier. The mayor contended in his statement that the strike is illegal because "it is over issues that are deemed by state law to be non-strikable, and it endangers the health and safety of our children."
