EL PASO — Small business management training is essential to running a business and has taught area business owners on how to be successful.
Job creation in America relies heavily on small businesses being successful and in El Paso, small businesses consist of most of the business sector.
"Locally, small businesses are at the heart of our economic engine," said head instructor for the Small Business Management Institute Virginia Price.
Price teaches everything a small business owner needs to know before starting from the ground up or expanding.
"We teach strategic planning, marketing, administration, human resources, accounting, finance, and business financing," Price said.
The goal is to help businesses succeed by teaching owners of small business, like David Villalobos and Michael Medina of D&M Service Center, the necessary tools of business management.
"I didn't have any experience with any finance programs or managing a business," Villalobos said.
After the 13 week course, they learned how to manage their books and run every aspect of their shop on their own.
"We would have to have some kind of professional come in and help us manage finances," Medina said.
The program taught them how to create a business plan and better budget their spending, allowing them to reach their goals of being successful and contributing to the local economy.
