LAS CRUCES, N.M. — A census report released Wednesday showed the poverty rate in the state of New Mexico went up.
It's estimated almost half a million people in the state were living below the poverty line last year.
The estimated 22 percent of the population living in poverty is the highest percentage in the country.
The report shows about 400 thousand New Mexicans did not have health insurance last year.
