Affadavit Details Murder Charge
EL PASO — He stuck his fingers deep into the baby's throat and held them there until she went unconscious. Thats the police version of what Irving Aaron Gomez did last Friday, when a little baby did what little babies do...cry for help in the middle of the night. By the time Neveah Martinez reached Sierra Providence it was too late. Doctors pronounced her dead. Police say during interrogation Gomez claimed he'd calmed the child, then went back a half hour later to discover her unconscious. They say he later changed his story and told the truth.
It is anything but a fantasy world at the Child Crisis Center of El Paso....this is where babies end up when their parents, relatives or a boyfriend can't deal with ther own emotions and begin to hit.
Executive Director Al Velarte says, "i have children here who have been battered. I have children here who've been hospitalized because of a beating they've received. I have children who been neglected..severe abuse and neglect."
"Stress is probably the biggest factor that causes a parent to turn on their children. Daily life, financial stress, certainly stress as a result of substance abuse. Domestic violence, all of these are stressers that cause a parent to lose it, when their little baby starts crying and they cant get that baby to stop crying"
"Every parent knows their breaking point. They know when they snap they know why they snap, they know what causes them to snap.and sometimes it takes a parent to know that early...and to remind themsevles early that you know what, i can break down."
