The Bowie High School Football team stumbled to a 3-7 record in 2011, largely with a young and inexperienced team which grew up fast last season. Head Coach Robert Padilla hopes that experience last season pays off this year. With 14 returning starters, Padilla expects much more from the team this year.
"Last year was the year that we needed to grow up a little bit. Last year we pretty much played with our JV, and graduated 28 before that, so we knew we were going to take our lumps a little bit, but this year they're back, everyone's back," said Padilla. Junior DE/TE Johnny Torres added, "It's hot, but it's a lot of fun, we're excited. We're determined to do a lot better than last year, so it will be a lot more fun for us this year."
Bowie opens the season Friday, August 31 at home against Ysleta.
