R. R. Jones Stadium was built in 1916 and the site of the very first Sun Bowl. Maybe one of the best honors bestowed on the 'Lady on the Hill' was being named Top 10 High School Football Stadiums in the Country by Maxpreps.com.
Jones Stadium is home to El Paso High and Cathedral football teams, and always offers fantastic views of downtown El Paso from the stadium seats.
El Paso High Head Coach Robert Morales said of the stadium, "Oh, it's beautiful. It's the most beautiful field I have ever seen, we have six home games this year so it makes it even greater, so it gets electric when we're playing here, the crowd gets electric and behind us, and you get to see the whole city, so El Paso High is El Paso, so we love it." Tigers Senior Linebacker and OL Andres Barrios added, "I mean, it's beautiful, we love playing here, yeah, it gets a little hot, but having these beautiful surroundings, the fans yelling at us... The band playing... Lot of history here. We have the best fans in the city, it's just a really good time here."
7pm Friday August 31st, the High School football regular season starts with El Paso High hosting Parkland, while Cathedral takes on Eastlake at Coronado High School.
