CHAPARRAL, NM — A Chaparral man was temporarily displaced Saturday morning after a fire ripped through his mobile home.
Fire crews said the first engine arrived eight minutes after the call came in, at which point the house was almost totally engulfed in flames. A few firefighters were treated at the scene for minor heat exhaustion, but no one else was injured. No one was home at the time of the fire.
Fire investigators determined the fire was caused by an unattended stove, which the homeowner forgot to shut off when he left that morning.
The home was a total loss. No cost estimates have yet been made available.
