The Miner defense only returns 4 starters from the 2011 season and Camp Socorro will be spent breaking in an entirely new linebacking trio. Jamie Irving, Josh Fely and Aubrey Alexius did see a decent amount of game action last season and should be expected to start, however the coaching staff has recruited a number of talented backups who could see time. But for now, coaches are focused on keeping them healthy.
"I think we've got to get them tougher so they don't get hurt all the time. We've got enough guys there. We've got some young guys. We've just got to toughen them up," said Head Coach Mike Price.
"We've got a lot of young bucks. We've got a deep linebacking corp this year. Us seniors are just helping to get them right, but they are learning really fast. We've got talent, speed, a great set of linebackers this year," added the Senior Alexius.
The Miners will be at Camp until Tuesday before returning to the Sun Bowl and preparing for their September 1st season opener against Oklahoma at home.
