La Mesa, New Mexico — La Mesa, New Mexico residents celebrated today as they broke ground on a brand new $1.4 million fire station. The 8,800 square foot facility will give the volunteer fire department more space to store equipment and trucks. The new building will be almost three times as big as the current fire station. The Doña Ana County fire marshall says the station will be only be missing one thing: volunteers.
"We don't have enough volunteers currently. One of the things we're hoping is that because of the better accommodations we'll be able to recruit more folks to the facility and be able to have them be proud of the fire station they work out of," said Robert Monsivaiz.
The project is expected to be complete by February of next year.
