DOWNTOWN EL PASO — Election day may still be several days away, but El Pasoans are already turning out to vote in large numbers. Turnout is up significantly from two years ago, especially on the Republican side. When all is said and done, elections officials believe turnout will likely double that from two years ago.
"On the Republican side we already surpassed two years ago on just the second day. We had 881 votes total two years ago. As of Tuesday, we had 886," said Javier Chacon, Elections Administrator.
Elections officials say the hotly contested Senate race between David Dewhurst and Ted Cruz is driving many of those Republicans to the polls.
