EAST EL PASO — An El Paso man received the nation's oldest military award Friday, 68 years late. Pedro Nunez was presented the Purple Heart Medal during a ceremony with family and friends. Nunez was shot in the arm and hand in 1944 during World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart after combat, but it and all his other war medals were stolen about two decades ago. On Friday, all was made right as the Purple Heart was presented to Nunez once again.
"It's a great day for me, this ceremony we're having, it makes me feel beautiful, happy, you know. I feel proud," said Nunez.
Nunez is now 92 years old.
