Ft. Bliss, TX — Three hundred soldiers returned home to family and friends Thursday at Fort Bliss. The men and women are part of the 3rd Brigade Combat team and spent the last 10 months in Eastern Afghanistan. The soldiers are also part of the Bulldog Brigade which mentored Afghan National Army soldiers and Afghan police. During the deployment more than 230 soldiers in the 3rd Brigade Combat team were wounded in action by enemy forces and earned the Purple Heart medal. The soldiers said there's nothing quite like seeing family again after months apart.
"To see them it's amazing. Your eyes just get watery and everything you planned pretty much won't go that way because you want to do so much more so i'm really, really excited right now," said Specialist Sebastian Chavez of El Paso.
Nearly 600 more soldiers are expected home in the coming weeks.
