City leaders, TXDOT and BNSF Railway broke ground Thursday, on a multi-million dollar project to remove a problematic rail-to-rail crossing in the Chihuahuita neighborhood.
The rail crossing, know as “The Diamond,” will be relocated because trains using the track frequently block traffic into the neighborhood.
The $1.5 million dollar project will move the rail crossing to the opposite side of Chihuahuita.
Organizers say the project will provide better access to the neighborhood and reduce the risk of accidents between trains and vehicles.
The relocation is being paid for with federal funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
