EL PASO - Driving clean across Texas is easy. The Texas Department of Transportation says you can do it and save money in four easy steps.
"Maintain your vehicle, drive the speed limit, don't idle when possible and drive less," Blanca Del Valle of TxDOT said.
TxDOT wants everyone to pay less at the pump and keep our air clean.
Driving habits that are especially important in the summer.
"When there's so much heat and there's so many vehicles it's important that we are aware of this situation," Del Valle said.
This practical advice can save you money in tough economic times, without having to change your lifestyle.
"Driving the speed limit, if you drive the speed limit you use less gasoline and help to keep our air quality better," Del Valle said.
And even kick you into better shape, by encouraging you to walk or even cycle.
"Park get out and do your business. You do save gasoline and improve the air quality," Del Valle said.
But if you want a more radical change.
"If you're looking for a new vehicle consider a hybrid," Del Valle said.
And push the pedal to the metal on going green while saving some too.
TxDOT is also giving away a Ford Fusion 2012 hybrid to encourage people to go green.
