EL PASO, TX — United Blood Services hosted the 4th annual Battle of the Badge Community Blood Drive alongside our local heroes.
Firemen, policemen and deputies challenged El Pasoans to donate blood and help save lives.
The men in uniform helped recruit people to donate and donated blood themselves.
One fireman said that in light of the recent tragedy in Aurora, Colorado, an event like Sunday's has renewed importance.
"Events like that always bring it home of how important it is to donate. But then with Fort Bliss, being here and then with the agencies that we have... police, sheriff's and fire you know there's always a need in the area," said firefighter Jay Nicholson.
According to UBS, blood donated at these events helps save the lives of patients in 18 different hospitals throughout the El Paso and southern New Mexico area.
