UTEP football’s Nathan Jeffery is one of 52 candidates named to the Doak Walker Award Watch List announced the PwC SMU Athletic Forum on Thursday. The award is presented to the nation’s top college running back.
Jeffery, who boasts a cumulative GPA of 3.02, appeared in all 12 contests in 2012. A key reserve last season, the sophomore carried 26 times collecting 166 yards with one touchdown. The Texas native also had 10 receptions for 124 yards and two touchdowns. He registered 14 kickoff returns for 317 yards, averaging 22.6 yards per game.
Named after SMU’s three-time All-American running back, Doak Walker, it is the only major collegiate award that requires all candidates to be in good academic standing and on schedule to graduate within one year of other students of the same classification.
