EL PASO - The El Paso Police Department is reminding the community the importance of taking a few extra moments during the day to ensure that their homes are secured. In some home burglaries residents leave a door or window open or unlocked allowing the burglar the opportunity to enter the home. In other cases burglars simply notice that there is no activity at the home and force a window or door open. The following are some tips that may help prevent your home from being burglarized:
- Always lock your doors and windows including all side gates and patio doors;
- Install a home security alarm system with a motion detector light feature;
- Do not leave any packages, electronics, and other valuables in plain sight;
- Try not to be predictable and vary the times you leave your home and the routes you take;
- Leave a radio and use timers for lights;
- Label all your valuables with your driver’s license number;
- Do not leave your garage door(s) open;
- Organize or join a Neighborhood Watch Program on your street.
Call your Regional Command Center (RCC) listed below and request a free home
security survey (for residential properties only). Information for the Neighborhood Watch Program is also available at each listed telephone number.
