EL PASO — Angel Rodriguez, 31, remains on the loose after a 3-hour SWAT standoff in South El Paso. He is wanted on two outstanding criminal warrants for evading arrest.
Officers responded to Awbrey St. and Alameda Ave. shortly before midnight Tuesday night.
According to El Paso Police Department Spokesman Chris Mears, officers were serving a felony arrest warrant for a suspect who drove away from officers who tried to pull him over on Tuesday afternoon.
Police surrounded the home, and entered the home after about an hour. Once inside, SWAT officers did not find the suspect.
"Unfortunately, the subject we were looking for that's wanted on that felony warrant was not there. So at some point shortly after officers arrived, before a good perimeter was set up, it appears that he was able to escape," said Mears.
Paramedics were called to the scene to treat an El Paso Police Officer who suffered minor injuries. The officers is expected to be okay.
Mears said the suspect's elderly father was inside the house during the standoff, but was unable to come outside because of a medical condition. He was also examined by paramedics at the scene and will also be okay.
