Lara Jackson is no stranger to tough times. In 2008, just hours after breaking the American record in the 50 meter freestyle, Jackson finished third in the finals to Dana Torres and Jessica Hardy. After Jessica Hardy tested positive for clenbuterol and was kicked off the team, Jackson was not added to the roster in the 50 m free despite having placed third.
In 2012, Jackson is primed for another shot at the United States Olympic swim team, and this week, Lara will get her shot in the 50 Freestyle and 100 Freestyle, which begin on Friday.
She doesn't use 2008 as motivation.
"I mean, I'd be a liar if I said that sometimes it didn't cross my mind, but I don't see the value of dwelling on any negative, and I think that if I am going to make the team this time around, it's going to be through positive energy, and not regret or wondering what if."
Lara graduated from Chapin High School in 2005.
Lara started as a walk-on at the University of Arizona in Tucson. Her junior year (2008) she won the 50 Free at NCAAs. She also won her senior year in 2009, and still holds the NCAA record for the 50 free.
