The house just passed the $819-billion stimulus bill.
The bill would funnel billions of dollars into Texas if signed into law. Texas would get over $2-billion for highways and bridges. Some of that money could be used to fund projects in El Paso. One of the Texas Department of Transportation's top priorities is adding more lanes to Interstate 10. TXDOT says it would expand the interstate from two to three lanes in both directions from Zaragosa to Horizon. Construction would cost tens of millions of dollars. The problem right now is the department says there is no money to pay for it, but With stimulus cash, this project could be fast-tracked and finished in three years.
