EL PASO, TX — Doreen Gallegos has won, according to final unofficial election numbers, the Democratic seat for the New Mexico State Representative District 52.
And the race didn't come without controversy, as her opponent is the former City attorney for Sunland Park.Doreen Gallegos says its a known fact that her opponent Andrew Moralez was mentioned many times in the New Mexico State Auditors report of the city of Sunland Park's Finances. She says that he might have more political experience than she does, but she has no baggage.
"You know I'm new blood and I mean to go in there with a clean slate. I'm very focused on what my priorities are and thats helping our community. So thats what I stand behind," said Gallegos.
Andrew Moralez says that he was fired from his position as city manager last July because he helped the FBI in their investigations of uncovering Sunland Park corruption.
"When I first walked into Sunland Park, I was faced with an $834,00 deficit, three months into the fiscal year, there were a lot procedures not in place and a lot of issues that needed to be resolved. " I started these investigations and became very unpopular," said Moralez.
