EL PASO — Mayor John Cook kicked off an 11-day rally leading up to the World Middleweight Championship fight between Andy Lee and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on Tuesday.
Official graphics and messaging featured on the boxing ring were unveiled at the conference. Mayor Cook is urging all El Pasoans to buy tickets to the June 16th bout, even if you aren’t a boxing fan.
"Buy blocks of tickets, give them to your employees even if your employees aren’t boxing fans,” Mayor Cook said. “This is not about a boxing match, this is about El Paso, about an opportunity to be in the national spotlight...to show people what we're made of."
Helping to encourage businesses to buy tickets in bulk was Operation Hope. They bought 200 tickets for Fort Bliss Wounded Warriors.
The big fight is on for June 16th at the Sun Bowl.
